Breakfast near LAX

(Facebook repost & update)

Flying in or out of Los Angeles?  Well, the Eagle got me hip to this spot near the airport called The Coffee Company.  I tried their Waffle of which was fine, but soon learned about their french toast of which I had to try.  However, for some reason when we returned, I forgot to get the french toast and ordered the waffle <frustrated sigh>.  Every time I walk out of this place and look over to another persons plate I say to myself, “DAGGIT, I was suppose to try the french toast this time!”  And this is when (J) would say, “LOSER” and as I would say, “I SUCK”.

The Coffee Company serves breakfast, lunch and dinner just so you know.  A nice spot!  I absolutely love the hanging flower pots out front.  Reminds me of my mother.  A great spot to hit up when taking someone to or arriving from the airport and in need of some good food.  As always the customer service is great, food arrives quickly and the prices are reasonable.

CHICKEN & WAFFLES

We’re not here for biscuits and gravy (even though we ordered that).  We’re not even here for eggs and ham.  PEOPLE, we are here for…CHICKEN & WAFFLES!!!

We pull up. “Hey sir, nice ride,” the security guard yells out.

“Thanks!” The Eagle responds back.

We’re at one of my favorite spots for breakfast.   A place I frequent regularly?  Enough I’d say.  So what I’ve learned early on is that you only order what the establishment is known for.  Therefor, when The Eagle asked where did I want to go for waffles, I responded without hesitation…Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles.

As usual we had some small talk with the folks outside.  It’s what we like to do – talk to folks.  Almost making our way to the front door, “Looks like you could use some help,” I tell the man.  He agrees and takes on my offer.  He was trying to take a selfie photo with the restaurants logo.  I smiled with a head nod of approval and continued on.

We finally entered the two-toned, wooden paneled building.  The waitress seated us and we proceeded to read the menu.

Flatware drops on floor “TING, Ting, ting”

WAIT – WHAT?

Read the menu?  I know what I want!

(looks like an owl <chuckle>)

“Is she actually reading the menu?” A woman yells out.

“Just browsing,” I mumbled.

Do I really need to explain what I ordered people?  Didn’t think so.  Well The Eagle got his regular, the #11, which are giblets with rice, gravy and a biscuit.

Did we enjoy the food?  No time for silly questions.  YES!  And you will too once you go try them out.  As far as I’m concerned, this (B.O.) establishment located in varied parts of Cali offers THE BEST combination of chicken and waffles in town or around.  Their special batter and seasonings are what some of us say, “Is Everything!”

And check this, they’re starting to make their entrees available at grocery stores throughout Southern California.  That’s awesome!

The Serving Spoon

Another (B.O.) located in Inglewood is called The Serving Spoon.  You can find them on Facebook under The Serving Spoon Restaurant.  It’s a place The Eagle and I periodically visit.

Parking can get a tad difficult , but we make it work.  He’s been coming here for years so he knows the deal.  You can park in the lot out front or find street parking along the side of the building.  “Babe, get out and get a table,” is the usual dialog in the car.  “Ok, I’m on it!” the typical response.

Once you enter, there’s a woman behind a lectern who greets you and behind her off to your left is the counter where you pay your bill upon leaving.  There’s a couple chairs upfront to rest and wait while someone cleans off a table for you.

“Hey, babe check this out!” as I read the listings on the community board.  I’m always a sucker for businesses that promote local happenings.  Speaking of community, did you know The Serving Spoon has serviced so many locals and celebrities from Former President Bill Clinton, Lisa Leslie, Kat Williams, Cedric The Entertainer, Anthony Davis to Stevie Wonder – cool huh!?!?  Oh and there’s me <LOL>  You know, because I’m somebody too (BIG SMILE) – we all are.

Well, when it comes to ordering, I’m starting to always get their chicken sausage.  Most sausage makes me sick and I hardly ever entertain it these days, but whenever I do, this one I can handle.  I decided to match it with four slices of tender french toast and as always, hard scrambled eggs.  I CAN NOT handle soft runny eggs – YUCK!  Maybe it’s mental, who knows.  The Eagle went with a soft buttery waffle accompanied by sausage.  As always we enjoyed our meal and the service is always great.  So, have you tried the spoon?

Waffles for ‘The People’

ALRIGHT – ALRIGHT!!!  So, it’s Saturday.  The sun is out.  It’s early and all of a sudden ‘The People’ have decided to come on over <sigh> Whelp – let’s make ’em waffles!

Pre-heat your waffle iron (turn it on) and place a mat, wax paper or paper towel underneath to catch any spills.

Now while the iron is getting hot allow me to quickly explain that just because it’s early doesn’t mean it is the only time to dish out some waffles.  I mean, there’s waffles for brunch, there’s waffles for lunch, there’s waffles for dinner and not cause I’m a sugar sinner!  <slow chuckle>  Try waffles with yogurt, try waffles with fruit, now let’s do these waffles for those who are a hoot!  (I’m on a roll people)

Don’t sleep on the additional sugar…
