The Hill of Berrys

Blueberry Hill, the hill of berry’s <LOL>.  And this berry hill made The Eagle and myself SICK!  While seeking breakfast I came across this place while searching online and they seemed to have good traffic and reasonable reviews.  I went with the simple French Toast, which I thought would be safe.

“Are you enjoying your meal?”

Deep down I believe he’s sick of me always asking <LOL>.  I’m just always trying to find ways of creating a good experience and figuring what I can do to enhance it.  However, yes, I can see how it can become annoying, BUT it’s who I am.

My food was fine, nothing much to scream about, just simple.  The bread was warm and soft, but there wasn’t much excitement to the batter.  Just another french toast.

Blueberry Hill has four locations throughout Las Vegas.  Over all they serve average food with average service and prices.  Think of it as a step up from Dennys or IHOP yet similar to Eat N Park.  The lines can be long and just like Eat N Park there’s a counter display of plenty of baked goods to take along the ride home.  In general, if ever in need of a simple place to eat off the strip that accommodates the entire family, this could be your place.

Now, here we are about an hour or so later and I’m starting to not feel so great.  Yup…upset stomach and we all know what that means.  Interestingly enough The Eagle started to not feel well.  Note, he ordered steak and eggs with toast on the side.  Needless to say we both promised to never return.

“Maybe it was the cook of the day,” I tried to consider. You know, maybe the cook was off his a-game and we just happened to be the victims of it.  He didn’t care what the reason, he just knew there was no going back.

The humor behind this is that months later I went back with another buddy of mine who came into town. I ordered a waffle thinking things would be different.  Well, as one would expect, I became sick yet AGAIN <LOL> AND SO DID MY FRIEND <LMBO>!!!   I think it’s safe to say none of us will EVER return and therefore want off this berry hill.

Jamming it up in Vegas

I went on yet another food date with a friend of mine.  While in Las Vegas we decided to hit Jamms.  They’re a (F.O.) restaurant that prides themselves on providing everything made to order.  Therefor I sooo wanted to try their famous, freshly baked ‘Pot Of Bread’ which comes in cinnamon raisin and plain.  It was fine, but not as exciting as I was hoping.  I guess I was looking for something with more of a powerful flavor, for bread that is and something additionally exciting rather than their sweet cream cheese for its compliment.  Yes, the bread was warm and soft and the ratio of raisins were great.  And don’t get me wrong, I at it, it wasn’t bad, was just looking for more.

Funny, I find myself always looking for more these days.  This is only because I have found places that I absolutely love and enjoy and unfortunately find myself comparing these new spots to my favorite places. <sigh>  However, I can separate and respect a business simply for what it is.  This is why I always say, just because I did not love it, does not mean you should not go.  I always want you to try these places out for yourself.

JAMMS.jpgI placed my actual order once (S) arrived.  She went with pancakes of which I am learning is her favorite breakfast item.  For myself I wanted to try their Jamms French Toast.  This item was a nice egg bread coated with cornflakes.  I made it a combo adding a side of bacon and scrambled eggs.  The cost wanted too bad, no more than $11.00.  I’ve had cheaper and more expensive with literally fewer items on my plate.    The bread was thick and soft, which makes a great french toast.  I just wish the secret batter included some or more vanilla or considered some amaretto flavoring.  I can never go wrong with eggs for I only prefer them scrambled hard.  I even enjoyed my bacon and yes I have encountered some horrible pork in my time.

I still think my best cornflake french toast experience was at Blu Jam Cafe.  I haven’t been back in a really long time, I think two years, mainly because of the stress of finding parking.  You know, the joys of in Los Angeles.

Over all my time here was not the greatest so I know I won’t bother to return.  My negative was the long wait for someone to greet me at my table while I sat there alone waiting for my friend to arrive.  Nobody came over to greet me until way after she arrived.  Therefor I going to drop my rating on their customer service.  So much for jamming it up in Vegas.  Until then.

The Kitchen in Hollywood

Kitchen 24 is located in Hollywood which was once a popular jazz hall owned by Shelly Manne in the 60’s.  Claiming to keep the eclectic, variety of music alive in both locations, it is safe to say you will come across a tune or two that you can enjoy while waiting and/or eating your meal.

So the Eagle and I thought to make a stop here, you know, something new.  I absolutely enjoyed the pink and brown colors of the bar stools, benches and counter of this upscale, 24 hour diner.  I’m sure an important spot for those who hit the bars and clubs and need a clean spot to eat during the late hours.

The Eagle ordered what could be his basic favorite, steak & eggs while I went with biscuits & gravy, which consisted of cheddar scallion biscuits topped with chicken gravy and pork sausage.  My selection was a little under $11.00.

“Hope you’re enjoying your food,” I mentioned.

As much as I absolutely LOVED its presentation, I must admit, my meal tasted a little different from what I was expecting.  I wasn’t crazy about the gravy.  It was to stiff and could have used a little more of it.  However, I do respect others takes on these classic dishes. What others may enjoy is their assorted menu ordering everything from fun sides like sweep potato fries to breakfast items, soups, salads and sandwiches.  Enough for everybody to experience something.  If out late in Hollywood, go check them out!
