It was around the time of my New Years (my birthday). (T) decided to take me to The Griddle Cafe, a place located in Hollywood that I’ve been to before, but not in a very, very long time. We drove separately.
“Are you there yet?” I asked over the phone.
“I’m here!” she responded with great enthusiasm.
I pulled up, lucky enough to find street parking around the corner. The line was long as usual. Some talked on the phone, while others wandered off constantly running back to check-in for their table.
“Have you called us yet?” We too were those people who wondered off.
“Oh my, it’s her?” A lady shared with another. They don’t know who (T) is for she isn’t usually apart of these trips.
This was (T’s) first time at The Griddle and I was excited for her experience. Like I said, it’s been a while for myself, but I wasn’t sure if I could remember what the inside looked like. As we entered it all came back to me. The red awning, bad parking and the legendary plate size pancakes. Besides the check-in table directly in front, on both sides of the room have reddish-brown rusted tables coupled by black chairs. There’s a bar that divides the room which leads into the kitchen located directly straight back of the restaurant. The accent wall to the right is exposed brick with the businesses name painted in red with black trim. The other surrounding walls are simply painted white.
“We’ve heard so much about you,” a couple shared. “We’re curious of what you will order this time.”
To be honest, I wasn’t sure. I knew I didn’t want pancakes for I had them time ago.
“Hmm, what can I get this time?” I kept asking myself.
Anyway, (T) went with their Good Ol’ Fashion, which is basically their buttermilk pancakes. For myself, I HAD to try their Cinnamon Roll French Toast and OMG people.
This is why the lines are so freaking long. There’s good breakfast happening around these parts people! I mean, I have not had really good pancakes or french toast in a while and this place is definitely it. Ok – well, if you’re in Hollywood. <chuckle> What I also LOVE is their menu selection. There are soooo many pancake options, it’s ridiculous. There’s other items to choose from egg creations to cereal and they offer lunch. Just thinking about all the options simply make me smile. It’s when the bread just melts in your mouth and all the flavors just come together in harmony. The french toast was hot and moist and it made you want to lick your plate and pretend to eat someone else’s. OK, OK PAUSE! The portions are so huge, you CAN NOT finish them unless you’re training for a breakfast marathon or are really greedy, which is TOTALLY fine – no judgement here, EVER!.
So, ah – Guys, People, Breakfast Lovers…I need you to go to The Griddle, 26 Beach and Jacks-n-Joe if in Los Angeles. These are my top favorites. Like, go RIGHT NOW! Stop whatever it is that you’re doing and go get some good breakfast. Seriously, what are you waiting for?!?!
Do you have any favorite breakfast/brunch restaurants in Los Angeles? Please share! I’d love to check them out. I mean, a girls gotta eat 🙂
